About Daily Dose of Reading

Organization Background

Daily Dose of Reading (DDR) improves literacy in children by empowering families through reading and language. It was founded in 1999 by pediatrician Dr. Shelly Senders, who offered his patients “Prescriptions for Reading” to encourage family reading and language development activities for children. From that beginning, DDR has developed early literacy educational programming which is presented to Head Start students ages 3-5. We now emphasize program delivery to support pre-literacy language skill improvement. All of our programs seek to improve literacy in children by filling their surroundings with reading and language activities and materials that engage all of the senses.

Our programming falls into three categories. Follow these links to learn more about each.
